Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was developed by the Gracie family based on the Japanese martial art JuJutsu taught by Mitsuyo Maeda, a student of Jigoro Kano (founder of Judo). BJJ is a combat sport system that focuses on ground fighting, grappling and defense. “Ju” can be translated as “gentle, soft, flexible, or yielding” while “Jutsu” means “art” or “technique” and represents manipulating an opponents force against himself rather than confronting it with ones own strength.

Mixed Martial Arts or MMA is a combination of traditional boxing, kickboxing, and grappling. Also known as No Holds Barred fighting, MMA has increased in popularity with the rise of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and the development of MMA as a significant sport.
Techniques and strategies from several different disciplines including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Boxing, Judo, Savate and Muay Thai are applied with an emphasis on technical skill, coordination, and physical fitness.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or BJJ is a martial art based on grappling and ground fighting, focusing on the skill of controlling one’s opponent through techniques that force him or her to submit. It prides itself in being known as the “gentle art”, allowing a smaller, weaker person to use leverage and submissions (chokes, locks) to defend himself against a bigger opponent. With origins in Judo (Newaza) and Japanese Jujutsu, it has since been adapted and modified by Carlos Gracie and his family to become the martial art it is today.

Felipe Bragiao began studying BJJ under the Gracie family as a youth in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. With well over 30 years experience in a variety of mixed martial arts Felipe encompasses a unique capability as a coach. Jiu Jitsu is his passion but his talent is not limited to the mats. Savate, Muay Thai, Wrestling, and Boxing are just a few of the diverse fighting styles that make Felipe an excellent choice for your coach in either stand up or ground game.
